Goya Went from Manual Product Measurement to Hundreds of Planograms a Week

Goya started working with Vision Group over three decades ago for product imaging. The partnership has grown into full planogram support, format conversion for every major retailer, and a collaboration where new tools get built around what Goya actually needs.

WHAT GOYA HAD TO SAY

Don’t just take our word for it

quotes

Anytime I have a new idea, I ask Jason and Rich if they can do it. They always figure it out and make it happen.

Overview

Goya Foods is one of the largest Hispanic-owned food companies in the United States, serving national accounts across grocery, club, dollar, military, convenience, and e-commerce channels. Eric Bray has been with Goya for nearly four decades, leading a 16-person sales team that manages some of the company’s biggest accounts, including Kroger, Amazon, Aldi, and the dollar stores.

The Challenge

Goya’s internal planogramming team needed accurate product images and reliable data to serve hundreds of planograms for major retailers. Historically, gathering this information was manual and slow:

  • Pulling products from warehouses
  • Manually measuring dimensions and weights
  • Typing out nutritional labels and ingredient lists
  • Formatting planograms differently for each retailer (Walmart, Kroger, etc.)

Eric described the old process:

“I would have to go down to our warehouse, get a can of black beans, take pictures, type the nutritional info, measure it. It could take 30 minutes per item.”

This manual work created inefficiencies and slowed down planogram production, especially during peak category review periods when Goya handled 30–50 planograms a week.

The Solution

Goya partnered with Vision Group (then SMSB) more than 30 years ago, starting with imaging services to build planograms. Over time, the partnership expanded:

  1. Omnipix for product digitization, including measurements, case weights, and spec sheets
  2. Planogram support for converting formats required by Walmart, Kroger, and other retailers
  3. Ongoing collaboration on new projects and tools driven by Goya’s needs

Eric emphasized Vision Group’s responsiveness:

“Anytime I have a new idea, I ask Jason and Rich if they can do it. They always figure it out and make it happen.”

Results

  • Massive time savings:
What once took 30 minutes per item is now automated through Omnipix.
  • Scalability:
Hundreds of planograms can now be managed efficiently, even during high-volume review seasons.
  • Retail compliance:
Vision Group converted hundreds of Walmart planograms into new formats with extremely fast turnaround.
  • Trusted partnership:
The relationship has lasted decades, built on responsiveness, reliability, and consistency.

Eric summed it up simply:

“That has been a life changer here, a life changer.”

Why Vision Group

For Eric, the reason to stay with Vision Group is clear:

“As long as I’m here, I’d never even think of moving out of using them. They’re not just business partners, they’re my friends.”

Vision Group’s combination of reliability, deep expertise, and customer-first service has kept Goya running efficiently for decades.
